‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Final Season Lands at Netflix (Video)

The internet TV company picks up the LucasFilm animated series after being canceled by Cartoon Network

Netflix has saved another series from cancelation purgatory.

The internet television network has picked up the sixth and final season of Lucasfilms and Disney/ABC Television Group’s animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” which was canceled by the Cartoon Network last March.

The series’ 13-episode final season, dubbed “The Lost Missions,” will become available on Netflix beginning Friday, March 7. Additionally, the service will offer all previous episodes of the series including never-before-seen director’s cut episodes and the feature film. This is also the first time any “Star Wars” content will be offered on Netflix.

“‘Stars Wars’ is one of the most iconic franchises of all time and this series joins a long line of Disney content that Netflix members are and will continue to enjoy for years to come,” said Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos in a statement.

He continued, “‘The Clone Wars’ marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries.”

Netflix provided the following description for the series’ final season:

In these eagerly anticipated episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, some of the deepest mysteries of the conflict between the light and the dark sides of the Force are revealed. An intrepid clone trooper discovers a shocking secret, Anakin Skywalker’s closest relationship is tested to its limits and what Master Yoda discovers while investigating the disappearance of a Jedi could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy. Fans will not only be able to watch the thrilling finale, they’ll be able to see more of The Clone Wars than ever before as Netflix will also stream the director’s cut of seasons 1 – 5.

Created in order to bridge the gap between “Star Wars” prequel Episodes 2 and 3, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” takes place during the three-year time period between films “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith.” It features Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and other Knights of the Jedi Order during the conflict.

This pickup is just the latest extension of Netflix and The Walt Disney Company’s ongoing partership. In November, the companies announced they were teaming up to create at least four original live-action shows centered on Marvel Comics’ characters like Daredevil and Luke Cage.

And starting in 2016, Netflix will be the exclusive U.S. subscription TV service service for first-run, live-action and animated movies from the Walt Disney Studios including titles from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Disneynature and Lucasfilm.
