The world still has a year and a half to wait for “Star Wars: Episode VIII,” but director Rian Johnson is halfway through production and he’s posting set photos to celebrate.

On his blog, Johnson posted two arty black-and-white pictures behind the scenes of filming the sequel, which is set for release on Dec. 15, 2017.

“I can’t believe we’re halfway through the shoot. (We’re halfway through the shoot!)” he wrote.

Along with a quote from the horror-comedy camp classic “Army of Darkness,” Johnson shared a picture of an X-Wing cockpit and a control panel.

Production on “Episode VIII” began around February, indicating the shoot should wrap in June or July. While that gives Johnson and crew more than a year for post-production, fans will tide themselves over with prequel “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” in December of this year.

Johnson is best known for sci-fi action movie “Looper” with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis and his low-budget directorial debut “Brick,” which also starred Gordon-Levitt.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” will star Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Carrie Fisher as Leia and both Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro.
