Shoe Designer, Ex-Con – ‘Maddman’ Doc Explores the Mysterious Steve Madden (Exclusive Video)

Film Sales Company has acquired the worldwide rights to the documentary about famed designer featured in “The Wolf of Wall Street”

“Maddman: The Steve Madden Story,” a new documentary from Ben Patterson, poses the question: Who is the iconic shoe designer, really?

“I didn’t even think Steve Madden was a real guy,” one bystander says in the clip, obtained exclusively by TheWrap. “I just thought it was a brand.”

“I know he was in that movie, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’” said another.

Indeed, in the film, Jordan Belfort of Stratton Oakmont (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) takes Madden’s shoe company public in 1993. Madden was played by Dustin Hoffman’s son, Jake Hoffman, in the film.

“Maddman: The Steve Madden Story” is a feature length documentary film exploring the public and private life of the famous shoe designer. He overcame addiction, served time in federal prison for his involvement with Belfort, and went on to build a billion-dollar company.

Earlier this month, the Film Sales Company announced it had acquired the worldwide rights to the documentary.

The film will premiere at the University of Michigan on Oct. 11, followed by an Oct. 17 screening at the iPic theater in Seattle. Screenings will be held in Miami and Los Angeles leading up to the New York premiere on Nov. 30, at the iPic Theater at the South Street Seaport.
