The stars of the new Reelz reality series "The Capones" insist they're really related to famous gangster Al Capone, and say a man who accuses them of being fakes may be a fake himself.
The cast, who run a Chicago pizza restaurant, spoke at a Television Critics Association panel on Sunday about their show, which debuts in the fall.
Despite the potential risk of offending someone named Capone, we asked: Why not take a DNA test on the show to settle the issue?
"Maybe Season 2," said castmember Bartolomeo Tumbarello.
A man who claims to be Capone's grandson, Chris K. Capone, told TMZ in April that no one on the show's cast is a real Capone. He said he hired a genealogist who could find no link between the gangster and the reality cast.
Then again, as the site noted, he was named Christopher Knight before he changed his name.
The "Capones" cast questioned his Capone bona fides by mocking his name and claiming that he has tried to butter up to the family.
So … how are the Reelz Capones related to the real Capone? The show's Dominic Capone says that his great-great grandfather was "the brother of Al's father."
Tumbarello, meanwhile, said of the show, "95 percent of it is real, and 5 percent of it is true."
