‘Titanic’ Mini-Series Green-Lit; Will Coincide With Anniversary

“Gosford Park” Oscar-winner Julian Fellowes will write

The international TV mini-series "Titanic," written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes, has been green-lit for production.

ITV Studios Global Entertainment, ITV Studios, Lookout Point, Global TV and ABC Television Network Present an Epic Television Event announced the production, which is scheduled to air next year to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking.

It will be simulcast on Global in Canada and ABC in the U.S., then premiere soon after in other countries.

Shooting of the script by Fellowes ("Gosford Park") will begin in Hungary this spring.

"To produce a drama of this scale required us to bring together more than ten pre-sale partners," said executive producer Simon Vaughan of Lookout Point. "This is also the first time in many years that major UK, US and Canadian networks have joined forces on a major mini series drama and we hope this will be the global broadcasting event of 2012."

"Titanic" is to air on ITV 1 in the United Kingdom, Channel Seven in Australia, SVT in Sweden, TV3 in Ireland, TVNZ in New Zealand, and SIC in Portugal.
