TNT has ordered another season of “The Last Ship.”

The series, starring Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra and Adam Baldwin will return for a 13-episode third season next summer. The season 2 finale will air on Sept. 6.

Based on the novel by William Brinkley, “The Last Ship” chronicles a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoided falling victim to the devastating tragedy, forcing Captain Chandler (Dane), XO Slattery (Baldwin) and the ship’s crew must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the few remaining survivors.

The second season saw the crew back on U.S. soil delivering the the cure developed by paleomicrobiologist Dr. Rachel Scott (Mitra), where they face opposition in the form of a new world order under the leadership of Amy Granderson (guest star Alfre Woodward), and the Immunes, a group of naturally immune survivors bent on taking over the world.

The series also stars Travis Van Winkle, Charles Parnell, Christina Elmore, Marissa Neitling, John Pyper Ferguson and Jocko Sims. The series is produced by Platinum Dunes, with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form serving as executive producers. Co-creators and showrunners Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane also executive produce, along with Jack Bender.
