Tom Hanks Returns as David Pumpkins in Surprise ‘SNL’ Appearance (Video)

“Any questions?”

Tom Hanks reprised one of his most iconic characters on this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live”: David Pumpkins.

The two-time Oscar-winning performer first played Pumpkins – an enigmatic, “spooky” character wearing a jacket covered in pumpkins – when he hosted a 2016 episode of “SNL.”

The sketch was an instant hit (the YouTube video has over 23 million views and NBC ordered a half-hour David S. Pumpkins Halloween special the following year) and spawned a flurry of David Pumpkins costumes that Halloween – made all the easier by the fact that the David Pumpkins costume was actually just a suit you could buy at Halloween City.

Hanks appeared earlier in Saturday’s episode of “SNL” in a sketch about a person at an Alcoholics Anonymous group pitching a Pixar movie, and the surprise cameo by former “SNL” cast member Bobby Moynihan during Weekend Update as his beloved character Drunk Uncle all but confirmed we’d be getting a David Pumpkins sketch later in the night.

That came with another Haunted Elevator sketch, with Hanks’ David Pumpkins once again flanked by Mikey Day and Moynihan as his kooky skeletons. The sketch played out much like the original, with guests riding a “haunted elevator” continually perplexed as to Pumpkins’ whole deal.

We did learn one new piece of information about David Pumpkins during this reprisal: he’s from Ibiza.
