New “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah responded to Twitter backlash against his prior comments about Jews and women Tuesday morning, but then quickly deleted the tweet.

Noah’s deleted tweet was responding to people on Twitter who, in response to his appointment to host of “The Daily Show” Monday, pointed out past tweets he’s penned offensive to Jews and women.

“South Africans know how to recycle like Israelis know how to be peaceful,” Noah says in one tweet from 2010.

In another tweet, he pokes fun at overweight women: “Oh yea, the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I’m sexy!-fat chicks everywhere.”

Supporters of Noah’s appointment to the coveted comedy chair laud his global appeal as a biracial South African comedian.

Comedy Central has not responded to TheWrap’s request for comment regarding Noah’s past tweets.
