USA Network Hires Heather Olander as Head of Reality Shows

Most-watched cable network pushing into reality programming after success of scripted shows

The USA Network may have to change its slogan to real characters wanted.

The most-watched cable network announced Wednesday the hiring of Heather Olander as senior vice president of alternative programming. Olander, who started this week, will lead the network's re-entry into reality programming after several years of focusing on scripted hits like "Burn Notice" and "Royal Pains."

Olander was hired in May of last year as vice president of programming and development at CBS Television Distribution. Her hiring was announced by Terry Wood, the top syndication executive at CTD, who then announced in November that she would step down at the end of the year.

Oleander worked previously at MTV, where she was vice president of original series development and current programming, and developed and produced primetime and daytime series.
