‘The Voice’ Ratings Up 10% in Second Week

Ratings up since strong debut

Ratings for NBC's breakout singing competition "The Voice" were up 10 percent in its second week as the show again won the night.

"The Voice" was the first show on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox primetime this season to grow from its first week to its second in the 18-49 demo or in total viewers. The gain was especially impressive given that last week's 5.1 rating was the season's highest for a series premiere.

From 9-11 p.m. Tuesday, the show had a 5.6 rating/14 share in the 18-49 demo, up from last week's 5.1. Its 12.4 million total viewers were up 5 percent over last week's 11.8 million, according to preliminary numbers.

On the other networks, Fox's "Glee" scored a 3.6/10, CBS' "NCIS" a 3.5/10, and ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" a 2.9/7, according to preliminary numbers.

The success of "The Voice" gives NBC a welcome boost as it tries to climb from fourth place. NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke told investors Wednesday that the company's new owner, Comcast, will spend an extra $300 million this year, much of it in primetime, to help boost NBCU. He said the success of "The Voice" could help NBC launch other successful shows.
