‘Walking Dead’ Gets Season 2 Premiere Date, 5-Minute Trailer (Video)

Second season begins Oct. 16 — not on Halloween

AMC announced an Oct. 16 return for "The Walking Dead" and debuted a five-minute trailer at Comic-Con on Friday.

The second season will continue the story of a band of survivors in a zombie apocalypse — but this time, judging from the trailer, they'll make the questionable decision to split up.

Story continues after trailer:

"The overwhelmingly positive response to our first season has driven all of us, from the actors to the directors to the crew to the writers, to give absolutely everything we've got toward making this season meet or even exceed expectations," said executive producer Robert Kirkman, who created the comic book on which the series is based. "I'm glad I wasn't the only one who couldn't wait until Halloween to share season 2 with the world!"

The first season debuted on Halloween 2010, sparking speculation that Season 2 would start on Halloween as well.

Oct. 16 is a Sunday, and the second season premiere will debut at 9 p.m.
