An extended look at “The Birth of a Nation” was released Tuesday by Fox Searchlight — revealing new glimpses of the horrors of slavery and a budding romance between two oppressed heroes.
“The Lord has spoken to me, visions of what’s to come,” says Nate Parker as Nat Turner, galvanizing his peers for a rebellion against slave owners.
Parker, who also wrote and directed the Sundance 2016 Audience and Grand Jury Prize winner, delivers potent drama and a budding romance with costar Aja Naomi King.

“Birth” will start its theatrical rollout on Oct. 7. It costars Gabrielle Union, Penelope Ann Miller, Dwight Henry, Armie Hammer and Aunjanue Ellis.
