The start of Britney Spears‘ two-year residency at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood brought jokes about her lip-syncing, praise for her choreography, and sheer joy to Miley Cyrus, who rocked out in the front row.
As Yahoo Music noted, fans’ consensus seemed to be that Spears lip-synced without apology, but that fans didn’t want one: They knew what to expect. Spears “Piece of Me” show got high marks for Vegas-worthy dance routines for hits like “3,” “Scream & Shout,” and “Toxic.” The singing wasn’t all that was fake: “Toxic” featured faux toxic rain.

The ex-“X Factor” judge’s influence on modern pop was obvious from her guest list. Along with Cyrus — who namechecked Spears in her hit “Party in the U.S.A.” — Katy Perry and Adam Lambert also attended.
If fans liked Spears, she liked them too: “Wow… perfect audience for the 1st #PieceOfMe show! That was AMAZING! I <3 you Vegas!!!” she tweeted, along with the picture above.

And she had special messages for Cyrus and Perry.
“Was SOOOO good to see you again girl!,” she tweeted to Perry. “Glad we could make our Vegas date happen :)”
