‘Wonderstruck’: Todd Haynes Weaves Magic in First Trailer for Awards Release (Video)

Follow-up to “Carol” stars Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams

Roadside Attractions and Amazon Studios have debuted the first trailer for Todd Haynes’ magical family film, “Wonderstruck.”

The filmmaker’s follow-up to his lesbian romance “Carol,” which also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, is based on Brian Selznick’s acclaimed 2011 illustrated novel about two deaf children (Oakes Fegley and Millie Simmonds) from two separate eras who secretly wish their lives were different.

Frequent Haynes collaborator Julianne Moore co-stars, alongside Michelle Williams.

“Wonderstruck” premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival in May and competed for the Palme d’Or. It currently holds a 73 percent approval rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 41 reviews.

Haynes’ last film, “Carol,” was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Cate Blanchett) and Best Supporting Actress (Rooney Mara).

“Wonderstruck” opens in select U.S. theaters October 20, 2017.
