‘What’s The Deal?’: Jeff Sneider’s Top 10 Movies of 2013 (Video)

Top 10 lists are very personal reflections — so it’s always scary revealing them to the world

Movies are subjective, so whether you love or hate my (hardly definitive) list, I just hope you respect it.

If not, let’s agree to disagree.

If you want to know what movies I didn’t like this year to establish a baseline for my taste, let me just say that “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” was hardly incredible; I’d like to purge “The Purge” from my memory; “A Good Day to Die Hard” was a bad day for me; I’d spend 20 years locked in a room to make Spike Lee‘s “Oldboy” remake disappear; I did the opposite of adore the Naomi Watts-Robin Wright sex drama “Adore”; “Movie 43” was barely a movie at all; “Berberian Sound Studio” was scary in all the wrong ways; and you’d need a primer to understand Shane Carruth’s critically acclaimed but nearly unwatchable drama “Upstream Color,” which didn’t make a lick of sense to me.

Meanwhile, E.L. Katz’s brilliant genre film “Cheap Thrills” doesn’t hit theaters until 2014 so it’ll have to wait its turn, while Steven Soderbergh’s touching swan song “Behind the Candelabra” debuted on HBO and did not receive a theatrical release. If it had, it would’ve received an honorable mention on this list.
