The annual World’s Ugliest Dog contest was held on Monday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petuluma, California, crowning shelter dog Peanut. On Wednesday, Jimmy Kimmel invited the two-year-old chihuahua-shih tzu mix onto his show for a complete makeover.
The results were … well, still pretty ugly.

Kimmel couldn’t help but notice a similarity between Peanut’s unkempt hair and Nick Nolte‘s wild-maned mugshot. But all of this was to be alleviated when he brought in a team of stylists — including hair, makeup and wardrobe — to bring out Peanut’s inner beauty.
They tried sneakers, wigs, and even a jacket with the word “sexy” emblazoned on it, before settling for a simple bowtie. Peanut’s true beauty can’t be covered up, anyway.

After all, he’s a pageant winner.
