Digital entertainment studio Worldwide Biggies has entered into a multi-project, first-look deal with Epix, the entertainment, video-on-demand and online service.
The company's first production for Epix will be a special about U.S. Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, which will air in January.
The special, titled "My: Moment," was co-created by Worldwide Biggies CEO Albie Hecht and Sean and Andrea Fine, and will be co-produced with IMG Entertainment, the sports representation firm.
The special will take a behind-the-scenes look at Vonn leading up to her competing in the Winter Olympics, where she won several medals, including gold.
"We are happy to be teaming up with Epix to bring our specials to television," Hecht, who founded Spike TV and is a former president of Nickelodeon Entertainment, said in a statement. "Epix is building an impressive roster of original programming and we are excited to be part of their lineup."
Laverne McKinnon, executive VP of original programming and development at EPIX, said in a statement, "Albie completely gets Epix on every platform, and is committed to helped us build our network with unique and entertaining premium events."
Epix, a joint venture between Viacom's Paramount Pictures, MGM Studios and Lionsgate, launched in October 2009. It offers motion pictures on TV and has made a commitment to deliver an expansive collection of movies on EpixHD.com this year. It also has been moving into original programming.
The service is available to more than 30 million homes via cable operators Cox, Mediacom, Charter and NCTC, along with Verizon FIOS and Dish Network.
