“Star Trek Beyond” star Zachary Quinto gave an emotional tribute to Leonard Nimoy in a video released Tuesday.
“Leonard was an actor, a champion of the arts, and a true inspiration to so many,” Quinto said. “Through his legendary portrayal of Spock, he influenced countless scientists and artists, myself and the rest of the [‘Star Trek Beyond’] cast included.”
Quinto then called on fans to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity that Nimoy donated to and championed. The donations are part of the “Star Trek: To Boldly Go” Omaze campaign, which gives fans the chance to win a walk-on role in “Star Trek Beyond.”
By contributing $10 or more, supporters will be entered to win a walk-on role in the film, while also benefiting selected charities, including Make A Wish and Heaven Homes in addition to St. Jude’s.
The third installment of the rebooted “Star Trek” franchise is being produced by Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk as well as Roberto Orci, while Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg are executive producing.
