CBS has canceled the scripted summer series “Zoo” after three seasons, TheWrap has learned.

The series, based on the novel by James Patterson, stars James Wolk, Kristen Connolly and Billy Burke as members of a team investigating a wave of violent animal attacks against humans sweeping the planet. The series completed its third season last month.

“Zoo” was a success for the network when it premiered in 2015, but viewership had declined slightly in Season 3, averaging 2.7 million viewers.

The news of the cancellation comes after CBS renewed “Salvation,” its only other scripted summer program, last week. The Santiago Cabrera-led thriller will return for a 13-episode run in 2018.

Produced by CBS Television Studios, “Zoo” is executive produced by Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Scott Rosenberg, Michael Katleman, James Patterson, Bill Robinson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen. Nonso Anozie, Alyssa Diaz, Josh Salatin and Gracie Dzienny also star.
