‘SNL’ Host Jim Carrey Mocks Matthew McConaughey’s Lincoln Commercials During Halloween Episode (Video)

The living comedy legend returns to NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” for his third stint hosting

Things got off to a musical start with Jim Carrey hosting the Halloween episode of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” The funny man hit the stage of Studio 8H for his monologue dressed as “Helvis,” a devilish version of Elvis Presley, complete with horns and a red jumpsuit. Carrey then crooned about his love of pecan pie, backed up by “SNL” cast members and a full gospel choir.

The real laughs arrived during three pre-taped sketches of Carrey impersonating Matthew McConaughey and the actor’s now infamous Lincoln car commercials. Carrey, putting on a thick Texan accent, explained why he would even agree to do a car commercial just months after winning an Oscar.

The late night show then dusted off an old bit once used for previous host Christopher Walken, having Carrey attend his family reunion. All of the comedian’s relatives end up being “SNL” players doing impressions of characters from Carrey’s hit movies, including Vanessa Bayer dressed as Ace Ventura, talking out of her butt, and a cameo from Carrey’s “Dumb and Dumber To” co-star Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas.

Carrey got to show off his knack for playing characters in dating show parody “Secret Billionaire,” where Cecily Strong must choose between four rich bachelors, including a snide and senile Carrey. With his jaw clenched and his head slightly cocked, one couldn’t help but reminisce about Carrey’s character Fire Marshal Bill, which he played on the Fox series “In Living Color.”

The night featured several Halloween-themed scenes but none funnier than Carrey having a dance-off with Kate McKinnon and musical guest Iggy Azalea, all of them dressed as the little girl from Sia’s music video for “Chandelier.”
