Ryan Seacrest’s ‘Becoming Us’ Offers Sneak Peek in Exchange for Tweets

ABC Family Twitter campaign encourages users to post support for the LGBTQ community

Ahead of the June 8 premiere of “Becoming Us,” ABC Family has partnered with PFLAG (formerly Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) on a Twitter campaign to build support for and awareness of the LGBTQ community.

The project asks Twitter users to pledge their support with a pre-written tweet using the hashtag #Ally4EqualityPledge. Those who participate will receive a reply with a 10-minute clip from “Becoming Us.”

Ryan Seacrest, executive producer of the show, tweeted his support for the campaign and encouraged his followers to participate.

“Becoming Us” is a reality series that follows a teenager and his friends and family as they come together to support each other while his father transitions to life as a woman.

The clip begins with Ben talking about his life as a typical teenager dealing with the change. Carly doesn’t appear until about midway through the clip, when she shares the story of her transition.

“My transitioning has been the healthiest part of my life,” she says in the clip. “When you become willing to let go of a lot of garbage and a lot of shame, to be able to make a beginning at living an authentic life, that’s pretty healthy.”

“Becoming Us” premieres on ABC Family Monday, June 8 at 9 p.m. ET.
