In advance of the launch of the video game’ “Abzu” on Aug. 2, TheWrap has been given a pair of exclusive tracks from Austin Wintory’s score for the game, and you can take a listen to them below.

When it comes to video game soundtracks, Wintory is one of the names to know. His score for the PlayStation 3 title “Journey” was the first video game soundtrack ever to be nominated for a Grammy, for one thing.

“Abzu” was developed by Giant Squid Studios and published by 505 Games. Giant Squid was founded by Matt Nava, best known as the art director on “Journey” and “Flower,” games with which “Abzu” shares a pretty distinct artistic style.

“Abzu” has the player swim deep beneath the surface of the ocean, exploring the depths and going with the flow in a fully-realized simulation of ocean life. But it’s not aimless — “Abzu” provides a storytelling experience that will guide players through its many ocean environs, in which there are secrets to be uncovered and history to be reclaimed.

The many references to Nava’s and Wintory’s involvement with “Journey” are not coincidental — “Abzu” is going for a similar vibe here.

“Abzu” will be available for the PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam) when it releases on Aug. 2. The soundtrack, likewise, will be available for sale once the game drops.
