The Amy Adams sci-fi movie “Arrival” will open wide on Nov. 11, 2016, TheWrap has learned.

The Paramount release, directed by Denis Villeneuve and co-starring Jeremy Renner, was previously called “Story of Your Life.”

Based on the short story by Ted Chiang, “Arrival” features Adams as an expert linguist recruited by the military to determine whether a group of aliens crash-landing on Earth come in peace or are a threat. She begins experiencing flashbacks that unlock the greater mystery about their visit.

Eric Heisserer (“Final Destination 5”) is writing the screenplay adaptation.

Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (“The Last King of Scotland”) and Michael Stuhlbarg (“Boardwalk Empire”) also star in the film, which will debut squarely in the middle of the fall awards season.

The movie has a strong pedigree, indeed. Adams has been nominated for five Oscars for her work in movies like “American Hustle” and “The Fighter.” Renner got nominations for “The Town” and Best Picture winner “The Hurt Locker.” And Villeneuve received acclaim for his recent features “Prisoners” and last year’s “Sicario,” which scored three Academy Award nods.

This project has been in the works for several years. Back in May 2014, TheWrap reported that Sony Pictures Worldwide picked up the foreign distribution rights to the movie at that year’s Cannes Film Festival and that it was set to shoot early the next year.

Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Aaron Ryder and David Linde are producing.
