Barbara Walters ‘Could Have Married Clint Eastwood’ But Was Shut Down at ‘Jersey Boys’ Premiere (Video)

Eastwood asked Walters out to dinner during an interview in 1982, and she hoped she could rekindle his affection now that they’re both divorced

Three decades after being asked out by Clint Eastwood during an interview, Barbara Walters still wonders what could have been if she had said yes, and basically turned her “Tonight Show” interview into a “Missed Connection” video classified ad.

“I could have been Mrs. Clint Eastwood,” the retired journalist told Jimmy Fallon (above) on Wednesday night.

Fallon aired a clip from the 1982 interview, in which Eastwood and Walters practically get lost in each other’s eyes to the point where they need to stop the interview to refocus.

“He was very flirtatious, and I was very taken. He asked me if I wanted to have dinner,” Walters said. “I said, ‘No, I have to work. I don’t mix business with pleasure.’”

Things have changed, however, in more ways than one. Both of the 84-year-old stars are now single. Unfortunately for Walters, though, Eastwood wasn’t ready to mingle, and was simply “polite.”

“The other night was the opening of Jersey Boys. I heard he had gotten divorced, I’m divorced, and I thought, ‘Maybe. Maybe it’s not too late.’ I’m not kidding, I really did,” Walters said. “[It was] arranged for me to sit next to him. He was…polite. He was courteous. What’s that expression? He was just not into me.”

The ball is in your court now, Clint.
