‘Blunt Talk’ Star Patrick Stewart on Behaving Badly, Trying New Things in Starz Series (Video)

“There was barely a day where I couldn’t raise my hand and say to the crew, ‘By the way, never done this before,'” Stewart tells TheWrap

Patrick Stewart has had a decades-long career, but his Starz series “Blunt Talk” is still delivering him new experiences.

Among those things he’s doing as Walter Blunt that mark a first for his career: Snorting cocaine on camera, filming a “post-coital” scene and fondling the breast of a transgender hooker.

“I had never done anything like that, however as the weeks went by and the episodes went by, there was barely a day where I couldn’t raise my hand and say to the crew, ‘By the way, never done this before,’” Stewart said in an interview with TheWrap.

And those aren’t the only firsts. Last week, Stewart was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy at the Golden Globes, marking the first time he’s ever been nominated in the comedy category.

“It feels like it’s happening to someone else,” Stewart said. “When I see a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy, that’s not what I do. I do drama, tragedy. I do upright, serious, committed, honorable, decent individuals. Not Walter Blunt, who is some of those things, but a lot of other things as well.”

The series, which stars Stewart as a British newscaster who comes to America with the goal of making the country a better place, wrapped its first season in October.

“We have a new plan for Season 2, which we start shooting in a little over a month’s time, which is going to link episodes together a little more,” Stewart explained, saying that the first season was mostly trying to set up Walter’s world and the characters that inhabit it.

“We’re going to take a slightly different view of all of that in the second season, which I hope is going to be very interesting,” he said.
