Dr. Phil McGraw’s interview-turned-intervention with Bobbi Kristina Brown’s boyfriend, Nick Gordon, was indeed the shocking and tragic portrait that the promos promised.

Gordon admitted to alcohol and prescription drug abuse. He exhibited slurred speech and displayed sporadic emotional outbursts during the sit-down with McGraw, which aired Wednesday.

“I have been drinking, I have been doing Xanax, and that’s it. I’ve been sober besides that,” Gordon told McGraw, who then played disturbing behind-the-scenes footage shot the evening before — that showed the 24-year-old slumped over and falling off of a chair. He appeared unable to walk or speak.

In another twist, Gordon’s mother Michelle was brought to Atlanta, Ga., where she was briefed on his condition. Gordon entered the interview stunned to find his mother present and immediately broke down, offering her a bizarre apology.

“Mom, I would never hurt anybody. I love people, I love babies, everything,” Gordon said through tears. Michelle pleaded with him to calm down for the sake of “Krissy,” a nickname for Bobbi Kristina used by her parents Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston.

“I lost the most legendary singer ever,” Gordon sobbed over Houston, adding, “and I’m scared to lose Krissy.”

McGraw recommended that he seek treatment in a rehabilitation facility, forgoing a planned chat about his struggle to visit Bobbi Kristina’s bedside after her family shut him out.

“What was supposed to be an interview quickly turned into an intervention,” McGraw said at the top of the special, which saw Gordon try to walk out of the sit-down twice before finally conceding to enter rehab.

Two representatives, who McGraw’s team had waiting in the wings, were introduced from Georgia’s Willing Way rehabilitation center, a three-hour drive from Emory University Hospital where Bobbi Kristina remains on life support.

“What if Krissy calls my name and I can’t… it’s three hours away,” Gordon lamented about the distance. “My name will be the first she calls.”

Dr. Phil addressed Gordon’s concerns by referring to himself in the third person and promising a helicopter. “If that happens, Dr. Phil will get a chopper on the ground and fly you back to the facility,” McGraw said.

Bobbi Kristina has been fighting for her life since being found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub at her Georgia home on Jan. 31. After being rushed to the hospital, Brown was placed in a medically induced coma and connected to a ventilator.

On Saturday, Bobbi Kristina’s aunt, Leolah Brown, claimed that Gordon is being investigated for attempted murder, writing on her Facebook page, “We have strong evidence of foul play. Until this investigation is completed by law enforcement, I would ask that you or anyone else not provide this individual a platform to spin this situation to his benefit.
