Caitlyn Jenner Opens Up About ‘Regrets,’ ‘Mistakes’ in Diane Sawyer ’20/20’ Interview (Video)

Two years after former Olympian’s first exclusive one-on-one with ABC journalist, a follow-up interview airs April 21

The follow-up to Diane Sawyer’s now famous interview with Caitlyn Jenner as she announced her transition is set to air this month, with the former Olympian talking about her “regrets” and “mistakes” made over the past two years.

“Do you ever have doubts that you did the right thing?” Sawyer asks in the “20/20” special, “Caitlyn Jenner: The Secrets of My Life,” to which Jenner answers, “Have I made mistakes? Certainly.”

Sawyer sat down with Jenner in 2015 for an exclusive interview after longtime speculation that the newly-referred to Caitlyn was transitioning to female, saying at the time, “For all intents and purposes, I am a woman.”

Since then, Jenner has been through a lot – and not all of her time in the spotlight has been positive. She was the subject of a lawsuit following a fatal crash on the Pacific Coast Highway (the two parties settled) and has received a considerable amount of flack for being a member of the Republican Party and for supporting Trump during the 2016 election.

Jenner’s career the past two years has been laced with criticism from the trans community, who didn’t see her as an ally or an advocate because she supported anti-LGBTQ GOP candidates like Ted Cruz and because she didn’t seem to know the basics.

“Someone needs to tell Ms. Jenner she’s transgender,” activist Zoey Tur told TheWrap. “There’s great disappointment among people in the community.”

The interview coincides with the release of Jenner’s memoir, “The Secrets of My Life,” which will be released on April 25 by Grand Central Publishing.

The special edition of “20/20” airs Friday, April 21 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
