Chris Hemsworth reunites with “Rush” director Ron Howard for the upcoming historical drama “In the Heart of the Sea,” and the new trailer featuring violent waters, a very angry whale and nautical disaster is sure to strike fear into even the most daring of seafarers.
The maritime thriller is based on the best-selling novel by Nathaniel Philbrick, telling the true story of the whaling ship Essex, which was attacked by a sperm whale in 1820. The crew was left shipwrecked and starving at sea for 90 days more than a thousand miles from land.
“We were heading for the edge of the Earth, left home behind with a slither of hope searching for the truth,” says a voiceover in the new teaser released Wednesday.
The film co-stars Ben Whishaw as Herman Melville, who would eventually go on to retell the tale in his own book, “Moby Dick.” Other cast members include Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Tom Holland, Frank Dillane and Sam Keeley.
Charles Leavitt adapted the novel from Philbrick’s non-fiction book, “In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex.”
“In the Heart of the Sea” will be released by Warner Bros. on Dec. 11, 2015.
