‘The Kennedys’ Gets a Complicated Series of Airdates

Documentary abandoned by History Channel will air on ReelzChannel

Viewers are just a month away from seeing how "The Kennedys" treats the Democratic dynasty, but they're going to have to pay close attention to its schedule if they want to watch in real time.

As previously announced, the eight-episode series, which was canceled by the History Channel in January under pressure from defenders of the family's legacy, will debut April 3. RealzChannel, the Albuquerque-based cable and satellite-distributed network that then acquired it, said Friday it will air over the following seven days.

That's where things gets just slightly less complicated than Oliver Stone's "JFK." (Okay, actually a lot less complicated. But still complicated.)

The first two episodes will air back-to-back on April 3, a Sunday, at 8 p.m. ET and then PT.

Those two episodes will air again Monday, so that new episodes won't compete with the  NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Game.

Episodes three through six will air one-a-night, Tuesday through Friday, at 8 p.m. ET and PT.

Episodes seven and eight will air back to back on Sunday, April 10.

In dropping the miniseries, starring Greg Kinnear, Barry Pepper, Katie Holmes and Tom Wilkinson, the History Channel said it was off-brand. Showtime executives then considered it, and deemed it a quality show, but also said it was off-brand.

ReelzChannel then swept in, making its biggest scripted acquisition. The channel reaches only 56 million homes, giving the star-studded series a smaller launchpad than it might have had, but the channel hoped the drama would help raise its profile.

In its news release about the airdates, it included a link showing viewers where to find the channel: www.reelz.com/watch
