During IFC’s “Stan Against Evil” panel at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press tour on Sunday, series creator Dana Gould promised critics, “I’m going to crack you bastards yet” then succeeded with a dig at director Tim Burton in his final minutes on stage.

Praising the behind-the-camera team of “Stan Against Evil,” Gould — whose TV credits include “The Simpsons” and “Parks and Recreation” — joked that the show’s director of photography is named Tim Burton, who, “unlike the real Tim Burton, knows what a second act is.”

“Oh yeah, I said it,” he said, following a big reaction from the ballroom and stars Janet Varney and John C. McGinley. “Only a genius could make ‘Planet of the Apes.’ It’s hard to take that premise and make it boring.”

Following the joke, Gould got back to actually praising the show’s crew, crediting the visual aspects of the horror-comedy with the show’s success.

“The show looks so beautiful and is so rich visually, when I say these people live in a horror movie, they really live in a horror movie,” he said. “We could not have done the show without such visionary people behind the camera.”
