In this morning’s roundup of Oscar news ‘n’ notes from around the web, we’ll take our cue from Edward Douglas of ComingSoon.net, who tweeted Monday night: “So does anyone NOT have any Oscar predictions these days?”
The answer: apparently not.
So this’ll be a roundup of predictions, which can be checked for accuracy before most people are even out of bed on Tuesday morning.
The trouble is, everybody’s pretty much picking the same movies, with minor variations. I mean, the Best Picture lineup that I predicted on Monday -- “Avatar,” “District 9,” “An Education,” “The Hurt Locker,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Invictus,” “Precious,” “A Serious Man,” “Up” and “Up in the Air” – is the exact same lineup predicted by Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Kris Tapley (In Contention), Erik Childress (Cinematical), Dan Stasiewski (The Film Chair Journal). Katey Rich (Oscar Eye) seems to have the same choices, though she’s a little vague on her Number 10 pick.
But others substitute a few different films for the last couple of spots, usually in place of “A Serious Man” or, occasionally, “Invictus,” “Up” or “An Education.”

Finally, this isn't an Oscar forecast per se, but it's another take on the idea: After locking in his predictions, Dave Karger looks at possible surprises. His list includes an “Invictus” shutout, a Best Actress nomination for Zoe Saldana for “Avatar,” a Stanley Tucci nod for “Julie & Julia” rather than “The Lovely Bones,” and “Inglourious Basterds” costars Diane Kruger and Melanie Laurent both making the Supporting Actress race.
