“It’s not enough to simply say that women’s issues are important to you. It’s time to do something,” the actress said

Alt-right trolls have come after Debra Messing following her speech directed at Ivanka Trump at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday.

Messing’s objectors took issue with the fact that the actress called out the First Daughter for “blindly defending [her] father” and failing to act on behalf of women as she’s promised to do.

“You’re treatment of @IvankaTrump was classless, of course, and despicable! Shut up and do the only thing you’re good for,” one incensed user wrote.

“As the alt-right dogpiles on this video, Messing’s important message of unity is reaching people who need it most,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO. “Plus, the fair-minded Americans who like and comment on Messing’s GLAAD video are reminding the world that the resistance is louder.”

Messing herself responded to one user who demanded she “learn her place” by pointedly asking, “Oh and what is my ‘place’ Donald?” in a tweet.

The “Will & Grace” star was presented with the Excellence in Media Award, which is awarded to media professionals who have worked to increase acceptance of the LGBTQ community. While on stage, she took the opportunity to address Trump directly, “one Jewish mother to another.”

“It’s not enough to simply say that women’s issues are important to you. It’s time to do something,” she said. “Please stop blindly defending your father, and start defending what you say you believe in. You can’t just write #womenwhowork and think you’re advancing feminism,” she continued. “You need to be a woman who does good work.”
