The Discovery Channel has hired veteran television executive Stephanie Angelides as vice president of Development. TheWrap exclusively learned of her addition on Friday.

In the role, Angelides (pictured above) will help guide the network’s strategic planning and content direction. She’ll also execute programming strategies through the development process, per the cable channel. Based in New York, Angelides will report to Denise Contis, the network’s EVP of Production and Development.

“I’m thrilled to have Stephanie as part of the Discovery team,” Contis told TheWrap. “She is incredibly talented and has deep development experience working on a wide variety of programming across both traditional and digital platforms.”

Angelides comes from Leftfield Entertainment company Riot Creative, where she served as president. There, Angelides produced programming for NatGeo Wild and Snapchat, among other platforms. During her tenure at Leftfield, she also served as the creative director of Partnerships for LFE/ITVE, and helped bolster the development slates at companies within its portfolio.

Previously, Angelides was senior vice president of Development for Optomen Productions, where she fostered more than 200 hours of programming for Discovery, ID, Destination America, and National Geographic Channel. The exec also expanded into scripted for MTV under that banner.

Angelides has also spent time as senior vice president of Development at One Potato Two Potato (Fox’s “Hotel Hell”). During her tenure there, she developed series for Bravo, Food Network, and ITV.
