Emmy Rossum on Going Gluten-Free: ‘I Don’t Think It’s Cool, the Chefs Were Definitely Terrified’ (Video)

“Shameless” star and “Top Chef” guest judge opens up on her medically-obligatory diet in the latest episode of TheWrap’s “Drinking With the Stars”

There is no rest for Emmy Rossum.

The Showtime star — who has been busy during her hiatus from “Shameless,” with three films coming out in the final quarter of 2014 — sat down with TheWrap‘s party columnist Mikey Glazer for the latest episode of “Drinking with the Stars” to dish on the upcoming roles and reveal how her gluten-free diet was a curveball for the “Top Chef” contestants.

“Comet,” her “acid trip love story” as she calls it, opens Dec. 5. Rossum’s real-life boyfriend Sam Esmail wrote and directed the comedy drama co-starring Justin Long — and if it is a fraction as good as the trailer, it’s a weekend best bet.

In between all the feature work (she also starred in the ALS tear-fest “You’re Not You” with Hilary Swank), Rossum recently appeared as a guest judge on two long-running, highly-acclaimed reality competition shows, “Project Runway” and “Top Chef.”

In the latter, producers billed her last minute request for a gluten-free meal as a curveball, a test for the chefs coming from a high profile and discerning eater.

At Glazer’s suggestion that with a 15 year track record, she’s been gluten-free since before it was cool, Rossum set the record straight.

“I still don’t think it’s cool,” the actress clarified. “I’m allergic to gluten. I have a mild celiac [disease], so I don’t think it’s cool. The chefs were definitely terrified.”
