‘Empire’ Pros and Cons: Jimmy Fallon Brings #TheDress, Llamas Into Conversation About Fox Drama (Video)

The hip-hop centric show is the hottest drama on TV — except when llamas steal its spotlight

A day after Terrence Howard walked Jimmy Fallon through his awkward Oscars moment, the “Tonight Show” host walked his audience through the pros and cons of watching the actor’s hip-hop drama “Empire.”

“Pro: It’s about a black family with a lot of gold records,” Fallon said. “Con: Half the country sees it as a blue family with a lot of white records.”

The NBC late-night host squeezed in another joke inspired by what has been trending on social media, too.

“Pro: It’s the most talked about thing on TV,” Fallon said. “Con: Until two llamas decide to escape again.”

The references were fitting since “Empire” now has the highest average number of tweets per episode during live airings of any broadcast drama this season after snatching the crown from ABC’s “Scandal.”

Meanwhile, the freshman Fox drama co-starring Taraji P. Henson is cleaning up in the ratings game, too. Last week’s episode drew 13.8 million total viewers, a 6 percent bump from the previous week, which marked the seventh consecutive week of growth since the series’ premiere.
