Lionsgate and CBS Films have released the first image of Dylan O’Brien as Mitch Rapp in the adaptation of Vince Flynn’s best-selling novel series “American Assassin.”
The thriller will be directed by Michael Cuesta from a screenplay by Stephen Schiff. Producers of the project are Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler.
The film will be based on Flynn’s best-selling thriller novels featuring Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). He is assigned to train a black ops recruit in the CIA when the pair is dispatched on a joint mission to stop an operative from starting World War III in the Middle East.
“American Assassin” is one of 14 novels set in the world of Mitch Rapp. All books have been on the New York Times best-seller list, with the three most recent one having been number one.
The actor was severely injured on the set of the third “Maze Runner” film in March. He was filming a scene involving a car and there was an accident. He suffered multiple broken bones and was rushed to the hospital in British Columbia, Canada.
Production for “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” was delayed for around a year, with the film now looking at a release date of Jan. 12, 2018.
“American Assassin” will hit theaters in 2018 and also stars Taylor Kitsch and Sanaa Lathan.
