Kathryn Bigelow is partnering with HBO to develop the drama “The Recruiters,” TheWrap has learned.

K’naan Warsame will write and executive produce the project, and will direct if it goes to pilot. The story is an original idea, set in Minnesota, that will delve into another hot-button issue for which Bigelow has become known: how jihadists are radicalized and recruited.

Bigelow and Carolyn Strauss will also executive produce.

The filmmaker, who won two Academy Awards in 2010 for directing and producing “The Hurt Locker,” previously collaborated with HBO on “The Miraculous Year,” which did not go to series.

Her other credits include “Point Break,” “K-19: The Widowmaker” and 2012 Oscar nominee “Zero Dark Thirty.”

She is represented by CAA.
