‘Independence Day 2’ Recruits ‘Young and the Restless’ Actress Mckenna Grace (Exclusive)

The eight-year-old star of Disney XD’s “Crash and Bernstein” joins Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe

Eight-year-old actress Mckenna Grace has been cast as Daisy in Roland Emmerich‘s “Independence Day 2,” an individual familiar with 20th Century Fox’s sequel has told TheWrap.

New cast members include Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie Usher, Travis Tope, Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lance Lim (“Growing Up Fisher”) and Sela Ward as the President, while returning cast members from the beloved original include Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox and Judd Hirsch.

Will Smith is not expected to return for the long-gestating sequel, which is scheduled for release on June 24, 2016.

Dean Devlin wrote the first draft of the film with Emmerich, while James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright wrote the most recent draft. James Vanderbilt also had a hand in writing the movie, which Emmerich and Devlin are producing with Harald Kloser.

Grace is best known for playing Faith Newman on “The Young and The Restless” as well as Jasmine Bernstein on Disney XD’s “Crash and Bernstein.” She’ll soon be seen alongside Bella Thorne and Jennifer Jason Leigh in “Amityville: The Reawakening.”
