A dance drama executive produced by “Flashdance” star Jennifer Beals and the director of Fox’s “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” adaptation, Kenny Ortega, is in development at Fox, TheWrap has learned.

The drama, titled “The Edge,” is set in the L.A. dance world, where it’s survival of the fittest. And no one is fitter than this ensemble of ambitious, sometimes ruthless women and men who have trained their whole lives to be the best and won’t let anything — or anyone — get in their way.

Written by the creator of VH1’s scripted cheerleading series “Hit the Floor,” James Larosa, the project hails from Sony Pictures Television, and has a script commitment at the network.

Annie Burgstede and Joanna Colbert will serve as co-executive producers.

Jennifer Beals, who recently held a recurring role on the NBC medical drama “The Night Shift” and will next star in the network’s “Taken” adaptation, is not expected to act on “The Edge.” She is repped by APA. Ortega, whose previous credits include Disney’s “High School Musical” and “Descendants,” is repped by Paradigm.
