Jimmy Fallon Gives Hillary Clinton (Literal) Softballs on ‘Tonight Show’ (Video)

Democratic presidential candidate mocks host for his recent interview with Donald Trump

After Jimmy Fallon got heat for his recent interview with Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton was a guest on the “Tonight Show” and didn’t let Fallon down easy.

In the interview that taped last week but aired Monday night, Fallon tells Clinton that Trump left some stuff behind in the green room after his interview. He first pulls out a heart-framed picture of Vladimir Putin, to which Clinton says, “the most famous bromance going.”

The next thing pulled out is Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.” Clinton then grabs the bag from Fallon and says, “Oh look, you know what? He left these for you,” pulling out a bag of literal softballs.

“That was my gift to him,” Fallon said. “I’ll give them to you later in the interview.”

Last week, social media users came down on Fallon for what they perceived to be a softball interview, calling the late-night host to task.

“I can’t make any jokes about Jimmy Fallon. The way he showcased Trump like a lovable old grandpa was sickening,” went one response to the interview.

“Fallon and Trump are 2 sides of the same coin: mediocrity and evil go together,” said another.

But as Fallon sees it, his one-on-one with The Donald was in keeping with his show’s approach. When he was cornered by TMZ on Sunday following the Emmy Awards, he was asked what he thought about the criticism of the interview.

“Have you seen my show?” Fallon replied. “No. I’m never too hard on anyone.”
