John Oliver and Stephen Colbert Trade Insults Over Wax Presidents (Video)

Late night hosts joust in a war of words about Warren G. Harding and Zachary Taylor

Ever since the closure of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania’s Hall of Presidents and First Ladies last year, life-sized wax presidents have, apparently, become the treasured possessions of late-night talk show hosts.

In a new bonus segment from “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver’s appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” Friday, the two “Daily Show” alums brought out their wax presidents for a showdown — a roast battle between Warren G. Harding and Zachary Taylor.

The pair traded insults like, “Zachary Taylor’s nickname was ‘Old Rough and Ready.’ That’s not a nickname for a president, Stephen; it’s a nickname for a male prostitute. A good one.” And “Harding is widely considered by modern-day historians to be the worst president ever — and remember, modern-day historians know who the president is right now.”

But the entire thing ends on a positive note when they both sides agree that neither Harding nor Taylor were as bad as “platinum douche” Franklin Pierce.
