Julia Roberts is in talks to star in the TV series “Homecoming” from “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail.

Based on the fictional podcast, “Homecoming” is described as a political thriller centering on a caseworker at a secret government facility. Should the deal go through, Roberts will play the caseworker’s supervisor.

Esmail will develop the project under the terms of his overall deal with Universal Cable Productions. He is also currently developing the miniseries adaptation of “Metropolis.” The writers of the original podcast, Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, will write.

Esmail will also serve as executive producer, alongside Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content, Horowitz, Bloomberg and Alicia Van Couvering. Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber of Gimlet Media, which produced the podcast, will also executive produce.

Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac and David Schwimmer starred in the original podcast.

The news follows shortly after Roberts’ first TV series “Today Will Be Different,” based on the Maria Semple novel, landed at HBO. Roberts is set to produce and star in the series, which hails from Annapurna Television. Semple will write and executive produce.
