ABC talk show “”doesn't know what it is now,” Chen tells Howard Stern

Another volley has been launched in the war between ABC's daytime gab-fest “The View” and its CBS rival “The Talk.”

Following “The Talk” co-host Sharon Osbourne's declaration that “The View” personalities — barring Barbara Walters — can “go fuck themselves,” Julie Chen, also on “The Talk” has said that the show shouldn't have hired Jenny McCarthy.

Appearing on Howard Stern's show, Chen said that McCarthy — who came aboard “The View” this fall after Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar departed — doesn't fit in with what made “The View” worth watching.

“Yes, and I'll tell you why I think so,” Chen answered, when Stern asked her if it was a “mistake” for “The View” to hire McCarthy. “Because what made ‘The View’ so popular and so good was that you had five different women from different walks of life discussing politics. And when they … whatever happened … when Joy left and when Elisabeth left and they got Jenny in, I think they were trying to lighten the mood at the table … more gossip, more fun  more laughs.”

Chen went on to opine that “The View” simply “doesn't know what it is now. What put them on the map and made them good and famous — they don't do that anymore.”

Oh, and Chen reckons that nobody's clamoring to hear what McCarthy has to say about political topics.

“No one wants to hear Jenny McCarthy talk about the New York mayoral race and politics,” Chen offered. “That's not what you put Jenny McCarthy on for.”

On the plus side, Chen did tell Stern that McCarthy is “beautiful and funny and talented and smart,” so at least there's that.

It's not even the same show anymore.

Can anyone think of any (non-Gay) man who regularly appears on American TV who was sleeping with their boss before they married them -like her? Didn't think so.
Thanks Julie for reminding us why so many of us have such a low opinion of you chat show yentas in the first place and avoid you wherever and whenever you appear on the dial. You are the Queen of Negative Reinforcement.

      Tom Arnold.

Nicely done! Disappointed I didn't recall that one myself since there aren't many, which was sort of my angle on this story.

Thought of another! Thanks to Barbra Streisand, Jon Peters catapulted from hairdresser to movie mogul.

I couldn't care less what that rich bitch has to say and I mean CHEN. She's married to a network chairman. Move on and give someone deserving a job who needs one.

Julie is dead on target. I stopped watching the VIEW when all the chat became nasty…. She is perceptive and talented.

    Don't watch either show!!!!!!

Julie Chen should get over herself. She always has such a high and mighty attitude. I don't see anything wrong with Jenny McCarthy. Julie got her job because she is married to the boss. I never liked her on Big Brother and she wouldn't be what she is without all of that plastic surgery.

I didn't like Julie Chen at first, and wondered how the
heck she got that job. Then I learned her husband was an exec with
CBS. After hearing her personal story revealed I warmed up to her, but I
just lost some of that respect again based on these comments.

I liked The View in the beginning, but Elizabeth
Hasselback and all the talking over each other really turned me away. I
also got tired of Joy Behar, although I used to love her, she lost her
edge over time. I'm just starting to watch it again, and Jenny McCarthy
    is part of the reason.

No one in daytime TV has a smash hit, and just because you are doing well partly based on the fact that there was a need gap where you fit in and it's going to be hard for any new show to compete against you, at least in the short term, doesn't mean you're not going to meet the same fate as The View down the road. Enjoy your success, but don't take the luck aspect of it for granted for a minute, you
will end up losing more fans!

Chen has no credibility as long as she ties herself the the train wreck that is “Big Brother”. SLEAZE And, she needs to look around the table on her show. Is it a requirement that there be a large, obnoxious black woman on both shows?

I don't know why anyone would listen to anything Jenny McCarthy has to say. At least all the other women on the two shows have some claim to accomplishment or talent. All McCarthy did to become famous was let people publish pictures of her private parts. We had a girl in high school who did that — poor thing was mentally deficient.
