Binoche plays Maria Enders, an accomplished and successful actress with a devoted personal assistant, Valentine (Kristen Stewart). When Enders accepts a role in the play that made her famous, this time in the role of the “older woman,” she clashes — personally and professionally — with the play’s new young star, Jo-Ann Ellis (Moretz). Enders is forced to confront her own insecurities and sense of aging as she tries to rein in her seething jealousy toward Ellis.
The film addresses a number of themes including aging, jealously and sexuality. (Is that Stewart in a thong at the trailer’s 1:03 mark?)
“Clouds of Sils Maria,” an IFC Film, also stars Brady Corbet, Johnny Flynn and Hans Zischler. The film will debut at Cannes May 23 and will get a limited theater release December 1.
