‘Lady Bird’ Director Greta Gerwig Praises Irish Star Saoirse Ronan’s American Accent (Video)

TIFF 2017: “She didn’t play the comedy, she played the honesty,” filmmaker tells TheWrap

“Lady Bird” writer-director Greta Gerwig couldn’t stop gushing about the performance of her star, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, playing a disaffected Sacramento teenager named Christine “LadyBird” McPherson.

Not only did she nail the accent, but Gerwig praised Ronan for elevating the humor in the script.

“She didn’t play the comedy, she played the honesty,” Gerwig told TheWrap editor-in-chief Sharon Waxman in a video interview at the Toronto Film Festival, while joined by co-stars Laurie Metcalf and Tracy Letts.
