‘Masters of Sex’ Star Teddy Sears Teases Season 2 Changes and Big Guest Stars (Video)

“There’s quite an event in Episode 1 that sort of alters the trajectory of a few characters for the rest of the season, and probably the series,” Sears tells TheWrap. “It may or may not involve Allison Janney.”

Teddy Sears sat down with guest correspondent Jake Whetter to drop some tantalizing hints about the highly anticipated second season of Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” on TheWrap’s “Drinking With the Stars,” presented by Jose Cuervo.

Sears portrays Dr. Austin Langham, who goes from being an eager participant in Masters and Johnson’s sex study, to a friend and confidante of Lizzy Caplan‘s Virginia Johnson.

After a tumultuous first season that saw Michael Sheen‘s William Masters get fired, Sears teased a somewhat new direction for Season 2. “He’s vowed to continue the study in its current form somewhere else,” he said. “So, we go to that somewhere else, which is a completely different location. It’s a different hospital, which means different guest cast.”

Sears was excited about some of the upcoming guest stars, which included Betsy Brandt, Courtney B. Vance, Danny Huston and Sarah Silverman. “Without giving anything away, it’s a very revealing side of her,” Sears said of Silverman’s guest spot.

While he couldn’t go into any specifics, Sears did try to offer a teaser for the new season. “There’s quite an event in Episode 1 that sort of alters the trajectory of a few characters for the rest of the season, and probably the series,” he said. “It may or may not involve Allison Janney, but it’s definitely worth tuning in for. It sets the whole thing in motion.”
