Controversial WaPo Blogger Laughs at Former Ombuds’ Recommendation That She Be Fired

"Hahahahahah," Jennifer Rubin tells TheWrap

Looks like controversial conservative blogger Jennifer Rubin isn't too worried that her cushy Washington Post gig is going anywhere — even if her paper's former ombudsman is calling for it.

Patrick Pexton, who served as Washington Post's ombudsman from March 2011 to March 2013, when the position was eliminated, wrote on Thursday that one of incoming owner Jeff Bezos' first orders of business should be is to fire Jennifer Rubin.

In his lengthy post, Pexton referred to Rubin as "the Ugly" of WaPo, saying she was the top source of reader complaints about a Post staffer during his time at the Post. "She's just plain bad," he wrote.

He continued:

She parrots and peddles every silly right-wing theory to come down the pike in transparent attempts to get Web hits. Her analysis of the conservative movement, which is a worthwhile and important beat that the Post should treat more seriously on its national pages, is shallow and predictable. Her columns, at best, are political pornography; they get a quick but sure rise out of the right, but you feel bad afterward. And she is often wrong, and rarely acknowledges it.

Rubin responded, telling TheWrap:

Hahahahahah

It doesn't look like she's very worried about what Pexton thinks. She wrote six blog posts on Thursday; none addressed Pexton's comments.

The conservative blogger joined WaPo in November 2010 and has drawn considerable criticism from left- and right-wingers alike. Perhaps most famously, she assumed the Norwegian man who murdered 77 people in bombings and shootings in 2011 was a Muslim "jihadist." He was not. Rubin later posted that she was simply going with "the best working theory."

Washington Post and Pexton did not return requests for comment; Rubin did not return requests for follow-up on her giggle-reply.
