Buoyed by Golden Week holiday attendance in Japan, Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” on Tuesday became the world’s 10th highest grossing movie of all time.
Reaching $928.9 million in global ticket sales, the Tim Burton-directed 3D film passed Warner/New Line’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ($925.3 million) to crack the top 10.
To date, “Alice” has grossed $329.8 million domestically (ranking 19th right now); it’s up to $599.1 internationally (good for 13th place).
In terms of the global list, “Alice” is the only non-sequel to rank in the top 10 besides the respective Nos. 1 and 2, James Cameron’s “Avatar” and “Titanic.”
Adjusting for inflation, “Alice” still has a ways to go, with the film trailing No. 100 entry “Top Gun” and its $176.8 million 1986 take, which translates to $362.6 million in today’s money, according to Box Office Mojo.
