“Clash of the Titans” became just the third film in 2010 to claim the No. 1 overseas box-office spot, knocking off “Alice in Wonderland” with $44.2 million in its debut weekend.

Opening in 15 markets on 4,240 screens, Warner Bros. Greek mythology remake eclipsed $34.2 million for last week’s winner “Alice,” which itself took down “Avatar” and stayed on top for a month.

By this time last year, nine films had won the foreign circuit.

DreamWorks' “How to Train Your Dragon” took second with $38.5 million overseas.

"Titans" was on top in each market it played over the Easter weekend, with $7.8 million in the U.K.; $8.6 million in Spain; $6.8 million in Korea; and $5.9 million in Australia. The film opens in France and Germany this week.

Coming in at No. 4 was "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang," which generated $10.3 million from 2,500 sites in 12 markets for an overseas cume of $17.2 million. The Jennifer Aniston vehicle "The Bounty Hunter" came in fifth with $9.3 million from 2,170 screens in 41 markets.

For the first time since it opened in December, "Avatar" finished out of the top five with $4.6 million in 37 markets.
