“Shadowhunters” will return for a second season on Freeform, the show’s cast announced on Monday.

“We have some very special news for you guys,” series star Katherine McNamara said in a live Facebook chat with fans. “We are all here as a team to announce that we are picked up for Season 2 of ‘Shadowhunters.’”

The YA fantasy drama based on Cassandra Clare’s popular “The Mortal Instruments” series of novels is currently in the midst of its first season run, which will wrap on April 15.

In January, “Shadowhunters” landed the network’s top series debut in more than two years, dating back to when it was ABC Family. McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa and Harry Shum Jr. star. Ed Decter and McG serve as executive producers on the series from Constantin Film.

The renewal comes a week after the network announced a Season 4 pick-up for “Young & Hungry.” The multi-camera comedy starring Emily Osment and Thomas Sadowski became the first series picked up for another season since the network rebranded itself as Freeform in January.
